Preparing for the Impact of COVID-19: Homeschool Organization

During this taxing time, everyone has to make adjustments to their normal, daily lives. Starting in August, one of these adjustments will be your child homeschooling. To help with the impact, we will be providing some tips on homeschool organization that will keep your child on top of their schoolwork:

1. Schedule or Planner

This will help keep track of assignments, due dates, and quiz/test dates. You may also include some study time and play time on the schedule. It is good for your child to have a routine and be hardworking but also to have breaks because a child’s attention span only lasts for so long. 2. Bins, Folders, Pencil Holders, Bookcases

This is where you keep supplies, assignments, books and anything else you may need for your child’s schoolwork. For example, a new folder can be used every week for the assignments due. This not only helps the child but also the parent or teacher grading. Bins can hold paper, counting blocks, or craft supplies. Bins, folders, and pencil holders can be found at the dollar store.

3. White board and Printer

These are not must haves but they may come in handy. The dollar store usually has some handheld white boards and markers that are easy to use for children and adults. Buying a printer and ink may save you money instead of printing at places such as FedEx and Staples. However, your child can always write down problems on pieces of paper and it is the same thing as if using a white board or printing out a worksheet.

4. Apps

Apps are a parent’s best friend when it comes to homeschooling your child. There are apps with mathematical problems, tracing numbers and letters to work on hand mobility, and many other apps for all subjects such as geography, history, etc. Some of our favorite apps for children are Math Speed Drill, Geography Master (involves the solar system too), and Animal Life- Science for Kids (can be used offline). There are also apps for planning such as Pocket Schedule Planner and School Planner.
