Self-Care Routines

In order to perform at your best, you have to take care of yourself to the best of your ability. These 6 lifestyle improvements can dramatically change how you feel day to day.

You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.
— John C. Maxwell

1. Plan Out Your Day

Do you often feel overwhelmed when you think about all the things you must do?

If feeling like you don’t even know where to begin your daily tasks sounds familiar, try scheduling out your day! Creating a “daily to-do list” helps to declutter your mind and keeps you organized. Planning out your day will help to avoid the stress of feeling like everything is adding up all at once, which helps to lower your anxiety level. Planning can also lead to a higher productivity level. Be creative, get a planner, hang up a marker board, or get a calendar to write on!

2. Sleep

Feeling sluggish or tired?

Getting enough rest helps to recharge our bodies leaving us feeling more energized. Feeling rested helps to improve our memory and cultivates positive thinking which helps to manage our stress – and those are just to name a few benefits! Try setting up a bedtime and see what a difference it can make to put your phone away and to turn off your television off as you fall into your peaceful slumber.

3. Fuel Your Body

Wondering why you are irritable, lazy, or unmotivated?

Eating healthier and exercising reduces stress and symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Try starting out with subtle changes by planning out your meals so you are less likely to fall into the temptation of grabbing quick and unhealthy choices when you are starving. Get your heart rate up by moving your body a few times a week – This will boost your energy and self-esteem! Take care of your body and lift your mood!

4. Socialize

Do you feel disconnected to others or lonely at times?

This type of routine may look different for introverts and extroverts because our levels of comfort in social situations differ, but connection is important to us all, because humans by nature are social beings. Try finding a group or a club based around your interests and talents, or make the effort to reach out to friends and family or someone that you miss. It is important to disconnect from our work and to connect with others. Having a sense of connection and belonging to others is important for our wellbeing!

5. Meditate

Does it ever feel like you have no control of your thoughts and surroundings?

Take time out of your day to stop and meditate. Meditation increases awareness and redirects thoughts helping to neutralize negative emotions and feelings such as anxiety and depression. If you need some guidance with meditating, you can find all different types of guided meditation videos online, such as mindfulness, transcendental, and yoga meditation. Clear your mind and appreciate life!

6. Me Time

Ever feel as if you put yourself on the back burner?

Plan time out of the day for yourself and don’t be afraid to say no to others sometimes. Self-care is important and can help to improve positive thinking and self-worth.

Try journaling to reflect on yourself or writing down your goals for the week, month, and year. Take a bubble bath, watch your favorite shows, or go for a walk – anything that you enjoy that helps you to unwind and reboot your brain. Sometimes it is beneficial to be a little selfish to ensure that you take care of you!
